May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and Florida is a popular destination for motorcycle enthusiasts who want to soak up some sun and check out the scenic coastal highways. Highway officials are asking motorists to take extra caution around motorcyclists and “share the road.”

Recently, there have been heated discussions on the use of red light cameras in Florida. The question up for debate is whether red light cameras are actually helping or hurting drivers in Florida. Legislators are claiming that red light cameras are in place to provide an additional revenue source for counties and cities, not to improve safety. However, several statistics have shown that red light cameras are improving road safety by decreasing fatalities. Both sides of the argument present strong viewpoints on the issue.

Even the best motorcyclists and motorcycles need to be towed. Sometimes it’s an accident, your bike malfunctioned or you ran out of gas. Whatever the case may be, the fact that still remains: your bike needs to be towed.

Texting while driving is classified as a form of distracted driving. In recent years, many accidents have occurred due to drivers being distracted while texting. As of October 1st, a new law has gone into effect in the state of Florida prohibiting texting while driving. While well intentioned, this new law is rather limited. Distracted driving is considered a “secondary offense”, which means that a driver cannot be stopped for a moving violation, but could be ticketed for texting if stopped for a different infraction, such as speeding and the officer observed the texting or the driver admits to it.
